Bowie Australian Dates Announced

ABC Online, 31 October, 2003

The Australian leg of David Bowie's worldwide A Reality Tour will kick off on Tuesday 17 February 2004 in Brisbane after he completes his already sold-out U.K., European, and US legs of the world tour. Shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide will follow but there is no news yet on a Perth date.

The tour promises a mixture of Bowie's extensive back catalogue of hits as well as songs from the recently released Reality album. According to promoters Bowie and his band, who have rehearsed over 50 songs from every era of his career, will change set lists from night to night on the tour.

A Reality Tour marks Bowie's first full-fledged world tour since 1995's highly successful Outside World tour. He will be backed by the same musicians he worked with on the Reality album and performed with him on the Heathen mini-tour: Sterling Campbell (drums), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass/backing vocals), Mike Garson (keyboards), Gerry Leonard (guitar), Earl Slick (guitar) and Catherine Russell (backing keyboards/backing vocals).

A Reality Tour is scheduled to play to over one million people in 17 countries over its seven-month period.

"Last year's shows were such a tremendous high and the audiences so responsive," says Bowie on his website. "My band is playing at the top of its form right now and it would be foolish not to play a tour this year while we're in such good spirits about the live show aspects of our work."

While Australia waits for the Bowie tour to arrive Club Bowie, a CD of rare and unreleased 12" mixes, is scheduled for release next month. The nine-track compilation features eight recent remixes and an unreleased and specially created video of the Club Bolly remix of 'Let's Dance' (in fact the album includes three version of that song!). Other remixed songs include 'China Girl', 'Loving The Alien', 'This Is Not America', 'Just For One Day', 'Shout' and 'Magic Dance'.

Tickets for A Reality Tour go on sale on Thursday 13 November.
