About
The Site
The Bowiedownunder
website was authored by Adam Dean, a Melbourne Bowie fan for some 18 years.
I can be contacted at mrdavidbowie@yahoo.com
The website opened
in early 2002 in response to YANHOT ('Yet Another Northern Hemisphere
Only Tour'). The idea was to start a petition for David Bowie to tour
Australia and New Zealand - places for which he had not toured in well
over a decade.
The petition received an early boost by appearing on the Teenage Wildlife News Page, Bassman's Bowie page and The Ziggy Stardust Companion. Over
the course of two years, it gained more than 500 signatures and even though
we have no idea whether it made a difference - in late 2003, David Bowie
announced his first tour downunder in 16 years!
Soon after the establishment of the petition, I decided to 'beef up' the
website by including data relevant to Bowie's previous visits of Australia
and other local related events. Particularly useful was Sean Mayes account
of the 1978 World Tour "We Can Be Heroes". A Yahoo! Community
was established and then with the help of members who submitted material,
I created pages on Bowie's 2004 Reality Tour (a work in progress).
Special thanks to all at Bowiedownunder who signed the 2004 Tour Petition
and helped spread the word of this website.
