Latest rumour is that Melbourne-based Heather Para of RoadSong Touring & Karen Conrad Publicity have joined forces to tour David Bowie collaborator and guitarist ADRIAN BELEW in March 2006.

Adrian Belew's last tour of Australia was with David Bowie in 1978! Subsequently, he has appeared on Bowie's Lodger, the Sound and Vision World Tour and in 1990 he co-wrote the tracks 'Pretty Pink Rose' and 'Gunman' with Bowie.

ANGEL THEOREY: FASHION!
August, 2005

Melbourne based gothic outfit Angel Theory have done a unique cover of David Bowie's 'Fashion' which can be downloaded in MP3 format by clicking here.

When asked about the track, brainchild of the band, Charles Fenech said the following:

"Originally when I did this I did it for a bit of fun, but it turned out so good, I had to release it.

Firstly I wanted to cover a not so obvious track, so I felt the original should not be electronic based, for example like a Depeche track, to me that would be just too obvious. So I wanted to go for something unexpected. As you know I'm a fan of Bowie's work, so doing this track was a lot of fun for me.

Fashion to me was one of those songs that I always loved and wanted to do a cover of, but never really got around to doing it with the other bands I was in. I thought the original was a great dance track, but I wanted it to be a bit bigger, and darker. The process of putting it all together was interesting. I started with the rythm track first, then I literally re-wrote the song into an Angel Theory track. I left out some parts that didn't feel right for AT, kept others, and wrote a new chorus. To me if your going to do a cover a song you may as well make it truly your own."

Fashion is from Angel Theory's debut EP titled Transmission. More info on the official website.

What would happen if, through a myriad of unforseen circumstances, Frank Sinatra and David Bowie unwittingly turned up at one another's concerts by mistake? BOWIE ON AUSTRALIAN SOUNDTRACK!
2005

David Bowie's "We Are The Dead" is the opening track on the soundtrack of Australian film, Three Dollars.

"The screenplay had what you could call a naive optimism when mentioning specific songs and performers that included Elvis, Joy Division, Chet Baker and Bowie - Australian films just don't have the budgets to afford performers at that level, but a nothing is impossible attitude from our music supervisor Michaela Kalowski, and strong enthusiasm towards the film from the music industry, helped us over the line. So we have finally have a soundtrack with Joy Division's TRANSMISSION, Bowie's WE ARE THE DEAD from DIAMOND DOGS (Eddie as a child quotes from the lyrics "Be elusive, but don't walk far"), Elvis Presley's version of Joe South's WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES, and Chet Baker's MY FUNNY VALENTINE."

Available at the ABC Shop

Meanwhile, a BRAND NEW Bowie song called "(She Can) Do That" is set to appear on the Stealth soundtrack. The soundtrack is already available overseas but local release (through Sony BMG Australia) has been delayed until September 4 (corresponding with the Australian cinema release on September 8).

BOWIE DOCO ON NZ CFM RADIO!
June 6, 2004
Bowie will be composer of the week on New Zealand's CFM starting from Sunday 6 June through to Friday 11 June. "Six programmes in which George Kayte looks at the life and music of rock legend David Bowie.". Show starts at 9 AM Sunday. Speil as follows:

This week's Composer of the Week is British rock legend David Bowie.

Every morning this week George Kay will present a programme looking at different aspects of the life and music of Bowie, starting today with 1964-2004 The Odyssey of a Changeling.

David Bowie, the man who gave pop a whole gallery of images, from the orange-haired punk alien of Ziggy Stardust to the baggy-suited This White Duke, is ageing gracefully and has long put behind him a past of drugs, sexual experimentation and excess. He admits his 11-year marriage to Iman was the catylst to getting his life in shape.

"I wouldn't say it was an overnight thing," he says.

"I wouldn't say one person really changes another, but I think you change yourself to adapt to a situation."

Bowie says they have become the quintessential boring parents, happy to stay at home with their 3-year-old daughter Alexandria ("Lexie" as Bowie calls her.)

While Bowie once said he would be embarrassed to sing Rebel, Rebel as he got older, he says he's now happy to revisit his musical past.

" To be honest it has taken me to this age to finally feel comfortable with my old personas. I went through a very vulnerable period in the 80s when I lost a lot of my motivation for music, but through the 90s as I got happier I can look back at the old stuff and feel it's not competing with what I do now. I feel both ends of the spectrum are now equal weight. They are not the same, but they fit comfortably well together. I don't feel intimidated by my past any more."

The programmes continues every morning this week at 9.00am.

BEAT MAGAZINE: REALITY REVIEW!
October 4, 2003

A pretty nice review of Bowie's Reality album appears in Melbourne weekly BEAT:

As a Bowie fan of some years standing now, I find my favourite songs and albums of his never grab me by the heartstrings straight away. First listen, I'm usually thinking: "Yeah, it's okay I guess"; itÕs not until the third or fourth listen that it has me hook, line a sinker. 'Reality' is no exception. In a music world where first-listen-impact, market researched, bottom line thinking dictates what actually makes it onto the CD shelves, to know there are albums still being made this way is nice. Once again, Bowie presents us with an entourage of eccentric characters and personalties through whom the songs are being told. With a kick-arse band behind him, and using the recording technology to enhance the sonic atmosphere of the songs in some absolutely brilliant ways, rather than to hide musical incompetence, 'Reality' takes us through the depths of madness, fascination and despair, the quality of which we've come to expect from Bowie. With lots of outside melodic ideas that somehow work, most of the songs have an edgy, power-pop kind of feel; the first single 'New Killer Star', the title track 'Reality', 'Pablo Picasso' and 'Looking for Water' are good examples of this. Some really beautiful ballads include 'The Loneliest Guy' and 'Days'. For those of us who greet every forthcoming Bowie album like a letter from the front, or those who just "kind of dig him", there's litres of listening pleasure on this album (or wait, maybe it's ounces, I always forget).
