ELECTRIC BOWIE PROJECT

Swapping the horn section for guitar and percussion, The electric Bowie Project will filter the compositions of David Bowie through the lens of 70s jazz-fusion, such as Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, Chick Corea Electrik Band, and Miles Davis' Tribute to Jack Johnson.

The performance will feature bandleader Adam Rudegeair in what will be the first public appearance of his Mark 1 Fender Rhodes 88. Adam is joined by his quintet, including Thom Mitchell on electric and acoustic drums and Stephen Lane on electric bass..

Bruce recently gave a talk at ACMI as part of the David Bowie is exhibition and contributed several rare Bowie pieces of memorabilia to the exhibition.

Exploring the links between costume and character, Mel Campbell will explore how Bowie flagged his changing musical directions through the changing of his costume, how his sartorial choices are tied to the performance of gender and sexuality, and how the costumes of an icon informed an entire generation.

Bruce Butler has had a fascinating, interwoven history with David Bowie. Showcasing articles from his own personal collection, including Record Mirror magazines from the 70s, promotional posters, personal letters, signed memorabilia and personal photographs, this very special presentation is an intimate snapshot into the connection between an icon and his fans. Through this personal Bowie slideshow, Butler traces his interconnected history with Bowie, from his first meetings as a fan in 1978 through to numerous meetings, gigs and correspondences that have peppered his life as both a music fan and industry professional.

The forum is a companion piece to Christian Thompson’s Dead Tongue, an exhibition at Koorie Heritage Trust responding to the 'Let’s Dance' video and other themes in David Bowie's work.

Chris Hadfield is currently in Australia speaking about his experiences as commander of the International Space Station.

Hadfield's debut album is titled "Space Sessions - Songs From A Tin Can" and is scheduled for launch on Friday October 9th, 2015. It includes his version of 'Space Oddity' - the video of which was famously filmed on the ISS.

David Bowie 'Young Americans' and 'Diamond Dogs' Anniversaries Honoured in Melbourne.

A one-off all-star local line-up of musicians and singers from Melbourne will celebrate the music of David Bowie by honouring the 40th and 41st album release anniversaries of seminal recordings 'Young Americans' (1975) and 'Diamond Dogs' (1974) in a unique live performance on Saturday 21 March at The Yarraville Club, which will also include other classics from the inspirational and intimidating Bowie back catalogue.
